MEET STEPHANIE

Survivor, Speaker, Advocate & Author

Sexual assault can be a consuming fire to the lives of its victims.  This is why Stephanie L. Jones, a sexual assault survivor, is committed to breaking the silence and cycle of sexual assault and helping victims heal.  Jones, a bestselling author, speaker, and victim’s advocate, was sexually abused from the ages of 5 to 13 years old.  Defiantly, she overcame the abuse and was empowered to transform the pain of her past into a limitless future of advocacy, ministry, and literary success.

From 1998 to 2005, Jones obtained corporate success with her former employers, Charter One Bank and SBC (currently AT&T).  After a life-altering health scare which caused her to undergo bypass surgery at the young age of 29, Jones took time to reflect upon her life and face the secrets of her past.  With her corporate career coming to a screeching halt, she began using the time to speak out about child sexual abuse and to pen the Amazon #1 bestselling book, “The Enemy Between My Legs.”  Although it is a jaw dropping account of the sexual abuse she endured as a child, critically acclaimed reviews have appeared in nationally circulated newspapers and magazines, and it has become a tool used to share hope and healing with sexual assault victims and survivors all over the world.

Jones has appeared as a guest expert on several syndicated radio and television shows.  She courageously discusses her past and the healing power that came when she finally revealed that she’d been abused.  She shares with audiences the tremendous breakthrough that came when she put her faith in God, faced the guilt and shame of her past, and the joy found not only in forgiving her offenders, but also in forgiving herself for choices she made as a result of being abused.

Jones is often a keynote speaker and panelist at national conferences, workshops, churches, and schools.  Some of her clients include Columbia University, Salvation Army, Black Entertainment Television (BET), the Oklahoma and Michigan Coalitions Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and Boy Scouts of America.  In 2010, she was a contributing writer to a collection of inspirational essays titled, “Sistahfaith: True Stories of Hope and Healing,” released by Howard Books, a division of Simon & Schuster.

Jones has received numerous awards and honors for her advocacy work, mentorship and volunteer services, including the Kiwanis International Take Time to Care Award.  She is working on her next book, currently scheduled to be released in April 2012.

Jones resides in Michigan with her husband, Robert A. Jones, Jr.
